Review: MATILDA at Cultural Arts Playhouse

The John W. Engeman Theater announces the cast and creative team for NEWSIES. Performances begin on Thursday, July 19 at 8:00pm and run through Sunday, September 2, 2018.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged 'newsies,' who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. This all singing, all dancing, high-energy show features a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman including "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," "King of New York" and "Santa Fe."

NEWSIES is produced by RICHARD DOLCE the Engeman Theater's Producing Artistic Director and Directed by Igor Goldin (Engeman Theater: Gypsy, Oklahoma!, 1776, Memphis, West Side Story, The Producers, Evita, Twelve Angry Men, South Pacific; Off-Broadway: YANK!, With Glee, A Ritual of Faith, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Crossing Swords).

The Choreographer is SANDALIO ALVAREZ (Engeman Theater: In the Heights; Broadway/National Tour: The Lion King, In the Heights; Regional: ALLIANCE THEATRE (Atlanta), Walnut Street Theatre (Philadelphia), Bristol Riverside Theater (Bristol, PA); TV: "Emmy Awards," "The Tony Awards," "The Latino Heritage Awards," "The Lopez Show," "The Today Show," and "So You Think You Can Dance").

The Musical Director is Alexander Rovang (Tours & International: Fame, Academy; Regional: Sawdust Palace with Susan Marshall & Co., Only Anne at Goodspeed, Monkey: Journey to the West at the Spoleto Festival).

OLD WESTBURY GARDENS presents F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and Damned in concert on June 9th and 10th, at 7:30pm. The show premiered last year at the Landmark Theatre and recently performed at the Tony-Award Winning cabaret venue 54 Below in Manhattan.
