Crosby & Nash first rose to fame as a duo in 1972 with their self-titled album Crosby & Nash. Spotlighting and weaving together the individual sounds of these two melodic singer-songwriters, the disc delivered the Top 40 hit "Immigration Man" as well as the Nash-penned classic "Southbound Train." Following the success of Crosby & Nash came the 1975 studio release Wind on the Water and 1976's Whistling Down the Wire. The 2004 two-disc release of Crosby-Nash is the first album of original music the duo has released in 30 years.

Each artist has explored solo career paths as well. Crosby's highly regarded 1971 solo debut album If Only I Could Remember My Name was deemed a "one-of-a-kind freak-folk apogee" in Rolling Stone. Highlights from his entire career were recently compiled in the 2006 three-disc CD box set Voyages. In 2002, Nash released his fourth solo effort Songs for Survivors which bookended his acclaimed 1971 solo debut Songs for Beginners, an album that chronicled his break-up from Joni Mitchell. His work is the subject of the 2009 three-disc CD retrospective box collection Reflections.
