Summer Youth Theatre kicks off the 2009 season with the Broadway classic Annie, with book by Thomas Meehan, Music by Charles Strouse and Lyrics by Martin Charnin.

The energetic musical based on the Little Orphan Annie comic strips of the 1930's will be performed by the 4th - 7th grade program on Thursday and Friday, June 18th and 19th at 7pm and Saturday, June 20th at 2pm.

The production is directed by Jennifer Glenn with musical direction by Mary Baker and choreography by Deb Bettinger. A cast of 70 students includes Isabelle Rummell as Annie, David Petr as Daddy Warbucks, Katie Gaches as Miss Hannigan and a host of others. Our orphans, 'Hooverville' residents, gangsters, politicians and even puppies bring this delightful family show to life and assure us that even in THESE troubled times we can all look forward to 'Tomorrow!"

The following week, we move from 1930s New York to Ancient Rome as the 8th - 12th grade program presents William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 25-27 at 7:30pm and Sunday, June 28th at 2pm. Doug Weaver directs a talented cast featuring Taylor Thurman as Brutus and Orion Dollar as Caesar.

Tickets for both shows are $8.50 for adults and $6.50 for students and seniors. Call or stop by the Lawrence Arts Center for more information or to purchase tickets.
