When Kansas City Repertory Theatre decided to extend the run of its acclaimed production of Into the Woods through October 11, artistic director Eric Rosen thought it would be a good idea to offer the Wednesday, October 7 performance as an evening of free entertainment for Kansas City area public service employees. "Into the Woods is a great hit for us, with sold out performances," he said. "Why not share that success with the people who work so hard to protect us and help us in our daily lives? One of the things I've learned since moving to Kansas City in 2007 is that this community is amazingly generous and welcoming. People stop me on the street to tell me how much they love the Rep. Now, it's our turn to give back by inviting those who are dedicated to providing the public services we depend on so much."

The Rep is working with metropolitan municipalities and five counties to spread the word to area military personnel, police, firefighters, EMTs, ambulance drivers and all city and county workers. Government officials who want more information should contact the Rep's Community Programs Department at 816-235-2707.

The offer is good only for the 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7 performance of Into the Woods at Spencer Theatre in the James C. Olson Performing Arts Center on the UMKC campus and is limited to four tickets per family. Tickets may be obtained by calling the Rep Box Office at 816-235-2700 or, by sending an e-mail requesting tickets to info@kcrep.org using the code word "thankyou" (one word).

E-mail reservations should include name, address and number of tickets being requested. Official employment ID must be used when picking up the tickets the night of the performance.

Kansas City Rep has already established a reputation of reaching out to the public with free tickets. Last March, they sponsored a free performance of Rosen's musical Winesburg, Ohio for the unemployed people in the area, making it the first performing arts organization in the city to make such an offer.
