Seeking Plus-Size Technical Theater Staff!

Seeking production staff for the July 2026 production of Body Negative by Sarah Galante. Taking submissions for Costume Designer, Prop Master, Lighting & Sound Designer, Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager. Submission deadline May 15th. Rehearsals begin June 20. Tech week will be July 6-12. Performances July 10, 11, 12. Manhattan, NYC. Positions will be provided a small stipend. Costume Designer will be provided a sourcing budget.

A local weight loss support group gathers every Saturday in the high school gym. But when a visit from corporate—and a sentient talking scale named SCALE—throws their routine into disarray, the group finds themselves spiraling into something far more sinister. As weigh-ins become theatrical, infomercials interrupt reality, and a strange new soup begins to change people, Body Negative spirals into a surreal takedown of diet culture. Blending absurdity with stark realism, the play asks what it means to reclaim your body in a world that keeps trying to sell it back to you. Takes place in the endless suffocating loop of consumerism. Post 2023 - when Ozempic is a word we all know. Set in a high school gymnasium somewhere smack dab in the middle of the USA. Also, an elaborate puppet theater. SCALE is an industrial sized scale, an inner demon, a puppet, and a CEO. Support group members are aged 12 to 40-50s (all played by adults).
