Pay Rate: $850-$1000, commensurate with experience

Position Overview
ICDT! is seeking a creative and collaborative Lighting Designer for our Spring Mainstage production. This contracted position is responsible for designing and executing the lighting elements that enhance storytelling, support the artistic vision, and create a dynamic theatrical experience for audiences.
The Lighting Designer will work closely with the Director, Technical Director, and production team to develop and implement a cohesive lighting design that aligns with the creative goals of each production.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Planning
Collaborate with the Director to understand and support the artistic vision of the production.
Develop a comprehensive lighting design, including color palettes, cue structure, and visual storytelling elements.
Create lighting plots, paperwork, and cue sheets/marked script as required.
Attend production meetings and design discussions if needed.
Implementation
Lead & assist with hang and focus.
Program lighting cues and sequences.
Attend technical rehearsals to refine and adjust cues.
Ensure lighting supports visibility, mood, pacing, and transitions.
Troubleshoot lighting issues in collaboration with the Director.
Production Support
Maintain professional communication with production staff.
Adapt design as needed to accommodate venue or technical constraints.
Ensure all lighting practices follow safety standards.
Qualifications
Required:
Experience designing lighting for theatrical productions.
Knowledge of lighting equipment, consoles, and programming.
Ability to read scripts and translate narrative into visual design.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Ability to work efficiently during tech week under time constraints.
Preferred:
Experience working in youth or educational theatre settings.
Familiarity with LED fixtures, intelligent lighting, and modern control systems.
Basic knowledge of electrical safety and rigging practices.
Schedule & Commitment
This is a contracted position for our production of The Drowsy Chaperone. Attendance is required for production meetings (as scheduled), hang/focus, technical rehearsals, and performances. Tech rehearsals/performances take place from April 26-May 10.
