MANAGER, MAJOR GIFTS & SPECIAL PROJECTS

The Public Theater is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual for the position of Manager of Major Gifts & Special Projects, a critical role within the Development Department that will support Frontline Fundraisers and the Executive Office. Under the supervision of the Director of Major Gifts, the Manager will help The Public meet its ambitious fundraising goals, with a focus on Annual Fund leadership campaigns and the Capital Campaign. The Manager will work closely with the Major Gifts team and Senior Leadership to assist in the stewardship of high-level funders; craft fundraising materials and written correspondence; support staff leads for several Board Committees and the Young Partner Board (YPB); and manage Board, YPB, and Major Gifts prospecting.



Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Frontline team’s stewardship of Trustees, Major Gifts donors, Capital Campaign donors, and prospects.

• Ensure the fulfillment of benefits for Major Gifts donors and Trustees, including crediting and recognition.

• Provide tracking and logistical support for bespoke cultivation opportunities & events.

• Under the guidance of Frontline fundraisers, draft customized proposals & solicitations, renewal letters, thank you letters, and cultivation materials.

• Draft personal invitations, programming & production updates, and other correspondence on behalf of Frontline Fundraisers and Executive Leadership.

• Support the Senior Development team and Executive Office in creating meeting materials for the Development Committee, Nominating & Governance Committee, and the YPB.

• Liaise with Senior Development team and the Executive Office on Board Committee scheduling, Board/YPB communications, and Board/YPB prospect nominating procedures.

• Maintain and update the Board, Major Gifts, and YPB prospect pipelines and manage recurring meetings to review prospects with Frontline Fundraisers.

• Analyze weekly contribution data and upcoming performance & event attendee lists to identify and qualify prospects.

• Create briefing memos for meetings with high-level donors & prospects and other strategy needs.

• Participate in virtual and in-person special events and fundraisers throughout the season.

• Other duties as assigned.



Skills, Experiences and Qualifications:

• Passion and enthusiasm for the performing arts, as well as a deep commitment to The Public’s mission, are essential.

• At least three (3+) years of office experience required, with experience in Individual Giving, Major Gifts fundraising, and/or Board Relations strongly preferred.

• Experience with Microsoft Office suite required; familiarity with Tessitura (or similar CRM tool) and iWave (or similar research/wealth screening platforms) preferred.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to think creatively and inspire through language.

• Comfort interacting with a wide range of important internal and external constituencies in person, via telephone, and in writing.

• Ability to collaborate across teams, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong initiative, solid judgement, and a solutions-oriented mindset are key.

• Extraordinary accuracy and attention to detail.



As a condition of employment, the Public will require all employees who report to work on site (either at the Public Theater or any other workspace or performing location) to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and booster. The Public will provide exceptions only for employees with an approved medical or religious exemption.

Compensation:

• This position comes with a salary of $65,000 annually.

This is an exempt position, according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a hybrid role, with the expectation of in-person week at least 2-3 days per week and regular attendance at in-person special events throughout the season.
