Sleepers Awake, the world premiere opera by Gregory Spears, brings a fresh perspective on the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty. Set to run from April 22 to April 26 at the Academy of Music, the opera features tenor Jonghyun Park as The Stranger, soprano Susanne Burgess as Thorn Rose, and baritone Brian Major as The Court Poet, all supported by the Opera Philadelphia Chorus. Directed by Jenny Koons, the production incorporates a labyrinthine soundscape that explores the boundary between waking and dreaming, inspired by the writings of Swiss author Robert Walser.
