The Israeli Opera Announces WHITE NOISE World Premiere

The Israeli Opera presents: Vertigo Dance Company and The Revolution Orchestra's WHITE NOISE 2018 world premiere!

Noa Wertheim's masterpiece re-imagined. A unique collaboration between The Revolution Orchestra and Vertigo Dance Company. New costumes by designer Sasson Kedem. Tel Aviv Opera House 19-20th January, Jerusalem Theatre 25-26th January.

The show WHITE NOISE was produced 10 years ago and was widely applauded in Israel as well as other countries. The renewed production was created especially for the dance series and the revolution series at the Israeli Opera. The show will run in Tel Aviv on the 19th of January at 13:00, and on the 20th of January at 21:00. An extra performance will be in Jerusalem in Schrober Hall on the 25th of January at 20:30 and on the 26th of January at 13:00. Later during the year the show will go on a national tour.

Musical director Zohar Sharon and conductor Roy Oppenheim will lead The Revolution Orchestra in this performance of a rich eclectic piece which was composed by Ran Bagno for the show in 2008, with new orchestrations and musical arrangements written by Orit Gurel especially for the 2018 production.

The dialogue between the dancers and musicians happening in front of the audience reveals new layers to the piece and create a whole world where movement and music nourish each other.

Costume designer Sasson Kedem continues his successful collaboration with Vertigo dance company, a collaboration which began over 2 years ago with the Piece "Sea" (2016) and continued on to the piece "One One & One" (2017). In this current production Kedem used identical costumes for the male and female dancers as a way of blurring identities and gender conditioning, and a break with the dichotomy in our gender constructs. The gray colour used in these costumes as a none-colour is also used for the purpose of blurring identities.

WHITE NOISE was born during the year in which Vertigo Dance Company moved from its permanent home in Jerusalem to the ecological village formed by the members of the company in a Kibbutz near Jerusalem. In many ways, the work symbolizes a new path for the company members, an active cultural center with a clear environmental agenda.

Kalle Lasn's book "Culture Jam" was Noa's inspiration for this creation "The modern world produces heaps of sounds that permeate the body and distort the mind and our breathing rhythm. Unaware, we sacrifice ourselves on the altar of consumerism. Man has made himself a brand. This doesn't make us happier, it interrupts regular breathing. I realized I had to neutralize the noise, regulate the frequencies, look inside myself, go back to the roots, to the earth, give in to distorted gravity. This realization was the catalyst for my most physical creation." Noa Wertheim.

According to Wertheim, WHITE NOISE 2018 hones the questions regarding our modern lifestyles and floods us with the tension that exists between the constant noise surrounding us and the yearning for inner peace. Wertheim becks her dancers to give in to gravity and reconnect with the life energy that binds us to the earth and the people around us. The dancers become a part of a whole without overpowering it.
