The Israeli Opera Announces 2018 Programming

The new production of Puccini's TOSCA will be a reconstruction of the original production from Rome in 1900, conducted by the Israeli Opera's master-conductor - Maestro Daniel Oren, who is also conducting the production of Verdi's UN BALLO IN MASCHERA. Verdi's colourful opera - UN BALLO IN MASCHERA will be directed by world renowned Mical Znaniecki and conducted by Daniel Oren.

Well known Italian conductor Giuliano Carella and successful English director David Pountney return to the Israeli Opera with a stunning production of Verdi's SIMON BOCCANEGRA. Belgian director Paul Emile Fourny will be returning to the Israeli Opera as well, this time with a moving version of the opera WERTHER by Jules Massenet, based on Goethe's famous novel and conducted by famed french conductor Alan Guingal.

This year will see leading soloists from around the world starring on the Israeli Opera stage alongside Israeli soloists, such as Ira Bertman (THE PASSENGER), Hila Baggio (COSI FAN TUTTE), Hila Fahima and Nour Darwish (WERTHER), Na'ama Goldman (WERTHER and COSI FAN TUTTE), Maya Lahyani (WERTHER), Alla Vasilevitsky (SIMON BOCCANEGRA), Anat Czarny and Oded Reich (COSI FAN TUTTE), Merav Barnea (SALOME).

Among the international soloists who will perform on the Israeli Opera stage for the first time next season are: Elisabet Strid, Daniel Sumegi and Chris Merrit (SALOME), Ainhoa Arteta (TOSCA). Some of the international soloists returning to the stage of the Israeli Opera after successful past performances: Alexei Dolgov (WERTHER), Gustavo Porta and Ionut Pascu (UN BALLO IN MASCHERA) and Aurelia Florian (SIMON BOCCANEGRA).

The dance season will present a meteoric repertoire by the leading dance companies in the world, among them a historic visit from Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal, performing the masterpiece MASCURA FOGO. The piece is dedicated to the city of Lisbon and is accompanied by the music of Amalia Rodrigues, Duke Ellington and many others.

World famous Yuri Grigorovich Dance Theatre will be arriving to perform one of the most grandiose ballet pieces - SPARTACUS, with music by Aram Khachaturian.

Wayne McGregor's company will perform award winning piece ENTITY accompanied by a soundscape created by Coldplay and Massive Attack collaborator Jon Hopkins and composer Joby Talbot.

Known choreographer and director Sasha Waltz will perform her piece CONTINU with her company, with music by Iannis Xenakis, Edgar Varese, Claude Vivier and mozart. The piece focuses on the perpetual forces of nature.

Beloved Eifman Ballet dance company returns to Israel with 2 pieces by choreographer Boris Eifman: Tchaikovsky, Pro et Contra - focusing on the tragic life of the famous composer, and RUSSIAN HAMLET - a look at the dilemma of "to be or not to be" accompanied by the music of Beethoven and Mahler.

Les Grands Ballets Canadiens will perform Vendetta - Storie di Mafia by choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, who brings the audience into the world of the Italian Mafia.

The Ballet Hispanico will be arriving to perform their special rendition of CARMEN, choreographed by Gustavo Ramirez Sansano. The piece is influenced by the visual world of Picasso and the driving rhythm of the Flamenco and the Pasodoble.
The Music Series will continue to grow and create new connections between different musical genres and styles.

REFLECTIONS - a new series with Shlomi Shaban and the Camerata connecting the world of classical music with popular music. 3 special concerts with artistic management by Shlomi Shaban and Avner Biron. Special guest appearances by Chava Alberstein, Marina Maximilian, and electronic musicians Noga Erez & Red Axes .

THE REVOLUTION SERIES - performed by The Revolution Orchestra with artistic management by Roy Oppenheim & Zohar Sharon. 3 unique concerts with guest appearances by Berry Sakharof, Ester Rada, and others.

THE EAST WEST SERIES - performed by The East & West orchestra from Jerusalem and conducted by Tom Cohen. With guest appearances by famous Greek singer Dimitris Basis, Ravid Kahalani and Miri Mesika.

THE SYMPHONIC SERIES - performed by The Israel symphony orchestra Rishon Letzion, with the finest classical repertoire and international soloists and conductors.

SATURDAY MORNING OPERA HIGHLIGHTS - the greatest opera hits performed by the Israeli Opera soloists accompanied by a piano on Saturday morning.
In addition to the series, there will be a special musical performance by the Philip Glass ensemble, performing the riveting soundtrack he composed for Jean Cocteu's 1964 film La Balle et la Bete.

CHILDREN'S SHOWS AT THE ISRAELI OPERAShows designed to bring the love of opera to children. 3 new shows based on children's fairy tales and nostalgic children's songs, as well as 2 series that will continue to run following great success and high popularity in the previous season.
