If you can't stop the beat then simply join it! The musical "Hairspray", winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, will have an Israel debut, premiering August 4 at Kiryat Motzkin Theatre Hall.

Starring Ronny Merhavi, Itzik Cohen, Idan Alterman, Meshi Kleinstein, Ido Rosenberg, Yiftach Mizrahi, Talli Oren (alternating with Hila Zaytun), Rudi Bainesay, Matan Onyameh, and Ahtaliyah Pierce.

16-year-old Tracy is a chubby teenager who dreams to perform on a popular television dance show and become a star! Much to her surprise, Tracy finds out that because of her weight her chances to be accepted to join the show are minimal. Tracy doesn't give up and she decides to try her luck when against all odds she succeeds and manages to do so big time. The musical is accompanied by a live orchestra.

The musical Hairspray is based on the 1988 John Waters film. In 2002 the Broadway musical premiered and ran for 2,642 performances. It was nominated for 12 Tony awards and won 8, including: Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Costume Design and Best Leading Actor and Actress.

Since then Hairspray has become an international phenomenon! The musical had a London West End production in 2008 and received and was nominated for a record-setting 11 Laurence Olivier Awards, including Best Musical!
