The New Theatre Hosts Absolut Gay Theatre Festival Dublin 5/10-15
The New Theatre (43 East Essex Street, Temple Bar) hosts Absolut Gay Theatre Festival Dublin from May 10th to the 15th. The theatre will having three productions which includes World Premieres of SLAUGHTERHOUSE SWAN and MYTH OF ANDREW & JO and the Irish premier of WEEPIE. The two latter plays contains nudity and strong language and are not suitable for persons under the age of 16. Tickets are €10, €13, €15 and can be purchased at the website, here.
SLAUGHTHERHOUSE SWAN will be performed May 10th to May 15th at 6:45 pm, with the Saturday matinee at 1 pm. It was written by Elizabeth Moynihan, Zebbie Award Winner 2009 Irish Playwrights and Screen-Writers Guild of Ireland for Best New Radio for The Cider Queens. It is about Bartie is the only butcher in the town of Swan and his family drama that overflows amidst cake and celebrations, with long-held recriminations, accusations and resentments rising to the surface.
WEEPIE will be performed May 10th to May 15th at 8 pm with the Saturday matinee at 2:30 pm. The story tells about two nineteen year old, upper middle class students Richard Elsey and Jamie Petrolini who were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Mohammed el-Sayed. In an audacious mix of tense drama and hilarious comedy, WEEPIE addresses that bewilderment, pulling apart youthful notions of masculinity in a heady mix of absurd ritual, eroticism, magic realism and hard-hitting drama.
THE MYTH OF ANDREW & JO will be performed May 10th to May 15th at 9:30 pm with the Saturday matinee at 4 pm. From the Artscape New Writing Programme, THE MYTH OF ANDREW & JO, tells the story of two gay couples - one male gay and one female gay. One from each team have a fol de rol by mistake and the result is a pregnancy, a child, and high comic chaos as four very sexy and delightful young gay people, whose last thought in life is 'children' ...... take on their responsibilities amid high camp and down-to-earth coping. The play is crazy and funny, filled with warmth and a powerful sense of loving.
