The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children, has announced that during 2010 the talented actor Louis Lovett will spend part of the year as the first ever theatre maker in residence at The Ark. More details of this initiative will be released as the year progresses but The Ark is delighted to announce a new world premiere for January 2010 in association with Theatre Lovett. Written by Finegan Kruckemeyer, starring Louis Lovett and directed by Lynne Parker The Girl who Forgot to Sing Badly will open at The Ark on 28th January.

Eina McHugh, Director of The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children said "We believe that our first theatre maker in residence is a really strong initiative that keeps high quality art at the centre of everything we do and allows us to deliver maximum impact for the vital territory that is children and families, schools, communities and artists".

Louis Lovett has a long association with The Ark as a writer, director and actor, having performed over 500 times on The Ark stage. Louis is also one of Ireland's most experienced performers for young people and his work crosses over both theatre for adults and theatre for young people. Lynne Parker is the recipient of the 2008 Irish Times Irish Theatre Special Tribute Award.
The Girl who Forgot to Sing Badly is a commission by The Ark.

This is the story of Peggy. And the packing. And the blizzard. And the boat.

Peggy O'Hegarty and her parents were packers.
Each day someone would call with a job and a time.
'I want 17 foxes in boxes by breakfast',
said the caller and all of the packers said: 'fine'.

But one day the phone it forgot to keep ringing.
And then all the boxes forgot to need stuffing.
And then poor old Peggy, she forgot to keep singing.
And she opened the curtains and found outside ... nothing.

Because all of the people in her city were gone.

So Peggy went out to explore...
