Padraic McIntyre Returns To Roscommon Arts Centre Sept 10

By:

Padraic McIntyre is a very familiar face in Roscommon, having had many appearances in Roscommon Arts Centre under different guises over the last few years. Writer and director, Padraic was a previous adjudicator with Roscommon Drama Festival and also directed a number of plays for NOMAD Theatre Network including the acclaimed ‘The Dead School', ‘Conversations on a Homecoming' and ‘Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme'. He returns to Roscommon Arts Centre on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th September with ‘The Night Joe Dolan's Car Broke Down', a play that he has written and directed himself.

Padraic is a native of Bailieboro, Co. Cavan and trained as an actor at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. He has worked as an actor throughout the UK and Ireland. He has an MA in Theatre Studies from DCU. Padraic is Artistic Director of Livin' Dred Theatre Company based in the Ramor Theatre in Virgina. He has directed their first four productions The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Belfry, (both nominated for Irish Times Theatre Awards) The Tale of the Blue Eyed Cat, and The Snow Child. He has recently directed Cobwebs and Chandeliers for RTE Radio. As Artistic Director of Livin' Dred Theatre Company, he is a founder member of NOMAD Theatre Network, a theatre network in the north midlands where the venues and the company in the region work together to tour professional theatre.

‘The Night Joe Dolan's Car Broke Down' tells the hilarious story of the regulars in a county Cavan pub on the night when the legendary Joe Dolan makes an unexpected visit.. This new play is a musical extravaganza wowed audiences during its recent sell-out run in Cavan and now makes its way to Roscommon Arts Centre. Set on a stormy St. Stephen's night as locals gather to celebrate the sixtieth birthday party of the local colourful character The Horse Munley. As the storm worsens and people head home a knock to the door brings the night's entertainment to a new level. ‘The Night Joe Dolan's Car Broke Down' features a host of local characters that audiences will easily identify with, each with their own story, As the play unfolds so too does the music and craic. Featuring live music ranging from the Wren Boys to Joe Dolan (played by John O'Grady) this play is a treat for all those who like a great night of theatre and music. Promoters suggest it could be described as ‘the Irish answer to Mamma Mia' as well as a fitting and sensitive tribute to a man who was a music legend.
