Cork Pops Orchestra Presents Shows for Primary, Post-Primary Schools, 11/7-9

By: Oct. 04, 2013

The Cork Pops Orchestra has launched its new website www.corkpops.ie to engage with students and teachers and to enhance the experience of attending concerts. There are youtube links to the programme and teachers introductory notes with links to interesting musical websites. The teachers, pupils and their parents can engage with this material to encourage a love of all kinds of music and encourages them to explore the world of music,

The Cork Pops Orchestra, conducted by Evelyn Grant, has been performing concerts for schools for over twenty five years. Generations of young people from the Munster region have been introduced to the joy of classical music through this entertaining, inspiring, and educational experience.

Making connections between music of the past and present has been central to the programmes presented - with the latest music technology and popular hits demonstrated and explored.

Rapper GMC (aka Garry McCarthy) is a highly-regarded music producer/rapper/youth workshop facilitator from Co. Cork. He recently recorded 'Doing the Jimmy Barry Murphy', and has already released 3 albums, and penned a top 20 hit with "Not Tonight - The Bouncer Song". His performances include the Electric Picnic and The Marquee in Cork. Garry has a unique style which brings witty, edgy and local lyrics over some of the catchiest beats out there. Never trying to Americanize his music, Garry remains true to himself and urges young people to try do the same when expressing themselves lyrically and musically.

The Cork Pops Orchestra will also be presenting three shows in three days. For more information, click here.
