"The Department of Education and Science is delighted to continue its support for the Dublin Cinemagic Film and Television Festival in 2010. Since 2008, the festival has provided a unique opportunity for children and young people to gain an insight into the worlds of film-making and broadcasting and to meet with industry professionals through participation in masterclasses and workshops. It is clear from the high levels of interest and attendance at events and screenings that schools and youth groups from Ireland and Northern Ireland continue to enthusiastically engage with the Cinemagic Festival. The cross-border jury, young film critic competitions and cross border film camp will also give young people opportunities to interact with their peers from across the island of Ireland and to share their interest and opinions on films produced specifically for children's and teenage audiences. The Department also welcomes the further expansion of the Festival in 2010 to include a new US-Ireland dimension to its programme." Martin Mansergh TD, Minister of State with Special Responsibility for the Arts, at the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism said ‘It is a testament to the hard work and endeavour of all concerned that this is now an established festival in Dublin. Along with the Cinemagic festival to be held later this year in Belfast, it is also an important cross border event that reaches the hand of friendship across all communities and borders.
As everyone who attends and participates in all the organised events will testify, Cinemagic inspires young people and who knows, someday soon some of those young people may forge a successful career for themselves in this medium of the Arts.
There is a saying in Irish "Sé tús maith leath na h-oibre". Cinemagic most definitely fulfils this criteria of being a good start.'
There are lots of events taking place during the Festival including Cinemagic Stars where budding actors, dancers and singers aged between 13- 18 will spend 2 days in an intensive masterclass creating an original stage production based on a well-known musical that they will perform to family and friends!
