Bui Bolg are innovators in the field of spectacle and street theatre. They offer a combination of originality, imagination and that little touch of magic. They are one of Ireland's premier street theatre, entertainment & community arts companies and are gearing up for a very busy few months.

Already in 2010 the company proved to be one of the highlights of the Temple Bar TradFest with families lining the streets to see the Bui Bolg Anna Livia Parade wind its way through Temple Bar. Their incredible giant sized creations will be hitting the streets of Dublin and Enniscorthy over the next few months. New pieces designed and created specifically for the festivals are already under construction.

Bui Bolg was established in Wexford in 1994 by a group of young, enthusiastic art graduates aiming to bring art out on to the streets and make it accessible for all. From their first ever event at the St Patrick's Parade on Wexford's quay front Bui Bolg has gone on to tour the festival circuit appearing at events as diverse as the Kilkenny Arts festival to The Galway Volvo Ocean Race. They have also been hosted by places as far flung as The Taiwan Kaohsiung Festival, May Desti -Nations festival in Memphis and regularly appear at the largest Chinese New Year Parade of Asia, The Chingay parade in Singapore.

Bui Bolg was founded and is still run by the Artistic Director Colm Lowney and his partner Lucy Medlycott. The couple met in Limerick while studying Fine Art Sculpture and developed a passion for street arts, drawn to it by the huge potential audience that might see their creations and the way in which they could directly communicate with the public. With their studies completed, Lucy, Colm and some of their art college colleagues quickly started their own company and Bui Bolg was born.

The company's workshop, where all the items are handmade, is based in Wexford, where they also run weekly workshops for teenagers all year round involving training in performance, stilt walking, juggling, puppetry and street arts. The two groups aged 12 -15 and 15 -20 perform annually in the St Patrick's day parade. This year they have already performed in Temple Bar TradFest, and are now preparing for the Bui Bolg spectacular night time parade in Enniscorthy on Sat 6th March at 7.00pm.

To commemorate the founding of Enniscorthy by St. Senan in 510AD, Enniscorthy Town Council have commissioned Bui Bolg to produce a spectacular night time parade which will pass by Saint Aidan's Cathedral, into Market Square, through Abbey Square and over the old and the new bridge. This parade will be based on the theme of "Enlightenment" and will include a glowing fire float with fire performers, a sparkling River Goddess representing the River Slaney and a magnificent Celtic Bell in honour of St. Senan.

Preparations are also underway for the St Patrick's day Festival in Dublin where Bui Bolg's stunning creations will be seen in the main parade.
