Autumn Season of Events Announced at Roscommon Arts Centre

Roscommon Arts Centre is celebrating the autumn and their 10th birthday in style with some unmissable nights of entertainment. The new programme covering events from September right through until the end of the year has recently been announced with many Roscommon premiers. Kicking off a busy season will be the Louis le Brocquy exhibition which continue in the Gallery until 17th September. Featuring work by one of Ireland's greatest living artists this is a golden opportunity for art lovers to stop by a enjoy The Táin. The Abbey Theatre make their first ever appearance at the arts centre with the wonderful ‘B for Baby on Friday 30th September and Saturday 1st October. Featuring Louis Lovett, who many will recognise from Kilinascully, and Michele Moran ‘B for Baby' is a new piece of theatre specially commissioned and winner of an Irish Times Theatre Awards Best New Play 2010. Theatre buffs will not be disappointed with the fantastic line-up this autumn including the critically acclaimed ‘Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer' on Thursday 3rd November featuring a mesmerizing performance by Aidan Dooley and Beezneez Theatre's ‘United' on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th November. Nomad Theatre Network make a welcome return, this season working with Galway-based Decadent Theatre Company on the spellbinding ‘The Seafarer' by Conor McPherson.

Athlone native and music lovers will be delighted with a concert celebrating the music and song of Count John McCormack on Saturday 15th September titled ‘McCormack and Kreisler - an Homage'. Other music nights during the season include a Tommy Fleming concert on Saturday 5th November and of course a huge favourite with his fans; Jack L on Friday 18th November. Anyone looking for a good value Christmas night out should reserve their tickets for the hilarious Neil Delamare on Friday 9th December and family-friendly comedy comes in the form of Brendan Grace (Thursday 13th October) and Conal Gallen (Friday 25th November).

This season the arts centre is offering something a little different for our traditional music audience with a Céilí Mór on Saturday 15th October from 4pm - 7pm. For just €10, you are welcome to come along a join in the dancing to tunes from the Glenside Céilí Band. There is lots for the younger audiences too with the musical ‘Back to the 80s' presented by Roscommon Community College (Thursday 27th & Friday 28th October), compelling theatre with ‘Chatroom' by Enda Walsh (Friday 23rd September), Wednesday afternoon trad music classes with John Wynne and Fiona Doherty, the Roscommon County Youth Theatre and of course the annual Lollipops Children's Festival (17th - 21st October).
