Phoenix Theatre Presents Rolling World Premiere of HALFTIME WITH DON

Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces the Rolling World Premiere of Halftime with Don one of the last three productions before our move to the new facility on Illinois and Walnut Streets. Opening January 12, 2018 on the Frank and Katrina Basile Stage, this production runs through February 4th.

In this Rolling World Premiere production from the National New Play Network, today is Stephanie's last chance, the Hail Mary pass to make it to SuperBowl Sunday. Ed Ryan is a rookie and, though he's eager to catch a snap, Steph can't afford a fumble. This is too important. This is family. With a father pushing away a daughter, a father-to-be learning the ropes from an unlikely source, and soon-to-be moms cheerleading from the sidelines, will this unconventional family nail a touchdown or run out of time on the play?

For 35 years, director Bryan Fonseca, has served as the Producing Director of Phoenix Theatre. As such, he establishes the vision for the organization and interprets that vision through play and artist selection. He has directed for the MFA Playwrights Workshop at the Kennedy Center; The Human Race Theatre of Dayton, Ohio; Indiana University; Ball State University; and the Civic Theatre of Indianapolis. He has transferred six Phoenix shows to Chicago, received an Achievement and Service award from the Indiana Theatre Association, two Artist Fellowship awards from the Indiana State Arts Commission, and two Creative Renewal Fellowships from the Arts Council of Indianapolis/Lilly Endowment. He is the first recipient of the Transformational Impact Fellowship, funded by a grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. He has served on the board of the National New Play Network and helped develop and served on the board of the League of Indianapolis Theatres.

Playwright Ken Weitzman is a Core Writer at the Playwrights' Center of Minneapolis, a member of Meeting of the Minds at Lark Play Development Company, and part of the Writers' Lab at Keen Company. He was a former Writer-in-Residence for Out of Hand Theatre Company and board member for The New Harmony Project for six years. Ken's plays have been published by Samuel French and Playscripts. He received his MFA from University of California, San Diego and has taught at UCSD, Emory University, Indiana University (head of MFA in Playwriting), and currently at Stony Brook University. National awards include The L. Arnold Weissberger Award for Playwriting for Arrangements, TCG Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award for The Catch, the Fratti/Newman Political Play Contest Award for Fire in the Garden, and South Coast Repertory's Elizabeth George Commission for an Outstanding Emerging Playwright.

Halftime with Don features Bill Simmons as Don, Michael Hosp as Ed, Lauren Briggeman as Stephanie, and Chelsea Anderson as Sarah.
