This marvelous ‘all Beethoven’ evening provides an exemplary sampling of genius at work. In the first half, the great Coriolan Overture is paired with Beethoven’s delightful Symphony No. 4, just as they were at their premieres in March 1807 at the home of Prince Lobkowitz. The concert ends with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, which Wagner referred to as the “apotheosis of the dance”. As always this rousing work will send audiences home humming tunes and tapping toes.
