"Fun? Definitely. Accessible? Completely, even if you didn't speak the language," said Lyn Gardner of The Guardian, UK in praise of Atul Kumar's Piya Behroopiya that was a part of the Globe to Globe Festival of Shakespeare's Globe.
Piya Behroopiya is Shakespeare's Twelfth Night adapted in Nautanki style. Replete with palpable and contagious energy from the cast and live musicians, this laugh riot has seen packed houses consistently all over cities and towns of India. Audiences have gone back many times over to watch this fantastic musical and mouthed the unforgettable one liners along with Orsino or Viola. The laughs stay with you and so do the melodious tunes and you find yourself humming the songs days after the show.
You have to be the crème de la crème to be invited to perform at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and Atul Kumar and his team proved to be more than a fitting choice from India.
