Review: VASIYAT, A FAMILY COMEDY To be Staged In Delhi Comedy as a genre is being explored in the Indian theatre scene and the audiences seem to be wanting more of it.

Coming to the capital is a new comedy play, entitled Vasiyat, from the house of MerryGoRound Entertainment, the play is described by the makers as a hilarious comedy and a family drama.

The most interesting thing about the play is that it is based on a story by Bhagwati Charan Gupta. the play directed by Niti Singh, is set in the small but historic city of Banaras in India. The city seeped with tradition and history, is also the hometown of Acharya Choodamani -- a professor at Benaras Hindu University. The story develops as the professor dies after falling ill after the dip in holy Ganges during a fateful winter.

As it happens in large family, after the initial grief, the suspense on who gets what from the will. The old professor leaves behind 3 sons and 3 daughters. the popular professor is also well loved by locals, students and politicians. The story cleverly traverses between comedy and tragedy and that is what makes it a delight on the stage.

The play stars theatre actors Saanvi Padhi, Shaurya Khunger and Sourabh Ranjan. To effectively showcase a story by one of the legendary writers is not an easy task and that is a hallmark of a great writer. Bhagwati Charan Verma was one of the most celebrated Hindi writers and wrote many famous stories such as Chitralekha which was also made into a Hindi movie.

Do check out this play as this comes to Delhi this summer for a dose of laughter and to appreciate the story by a legendary writer

August 3, LTG Auditorium Delhi
