For each season, the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) selects a total of six artists to participate in its Rising Stars programme, in which the young musicians are given the opportunity to present themselves on the most prestigious concert stages of the Old Continent. Creating the impression of a harmonious personality not merely in musical terms but in her appearance as well, Leticia Muñoz Moreno began her career as a genuine Wunderkind. Beginning her studies on violin and piano according to the Suzuki Method from the age of just three, she performed her first public concert at the age of five. Having studied for six years in the class of legendary violin professor Zakhar Bron at the Queen Sofía College of Music in Madrid, she honed her skills further in a series of renowned European institutions: The Cologne University of Music, in Saarbrücken under Maxim Vengerov, and at London’s Guildhall School. Despite her young age, the Spanish violinist is widely known and recognised: she has been invited to perform on several occasions by Yuri Temirkanov of the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, performed as a solo concerto violinist under Valery Gergiev, and enjoyed the personal assistance and advice of Mstislav Rostropovich. At this Budapest concert, she will perform popular works from the chamber music repertoire on a master instrument from 1762.
Moreno’s partner for the evening, Ana-Maria Vera, drew attention to her extraordinary capabilities at a similarly precocious age. Having made a recording for an internationally renowned record label at the tender age of 11, the next year saw her play for the president of the United States at the White House. At the age of 16, a stamp bearing her image was issued in Bolivia, her country of birth. She later toured with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Riccardo Muti, standing in for Claudio Arrau. Vera has explored the colourful and exciting world of chamber music in the company of illustrious partners such as Ivry Gitlis, Joshua Bell and Steven Isserlis.
