By:

WOKE AND HALF ASLEEP is Nothing For Houstonians To Sleep On ImageWoke and Half Asleep is having it's first live podcast at Rec Room on Tuesday, April 24th at 7pm. Created by two decorated young Houston artists, the live podcast is produced in partnership with Rec Room Arts Artist Residency Program.

The brainchild of Emanuelee "Outspoken" Bean and Candice D'Meza, the Woke and Half Asleep podcast is an off-the-cuff take on the social media woke trend and the current phenomena of polarizing political discourse. Bean, currently Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs Resident Artist Program Recipient is a poet, creator of Plus Fest (Houston's first poetry and art performance festival and only one of two in the nation), and coaches MetaFour Houston, the Writers In The School's Youth Slam Poetry Team. Candice D'Meza is a mainstay in the Houston theater scene, being called "one of the best theatrical performances of 2016 and 2017" in the Houston Chronicle and being featured in a Houston Press cover story "Seven Talented Young Houston Actors To Watch" in October of 2017. Having performed from smaller venues such as 14 Pew to the largest theatrical venue The Alley Theatre, D'Meza now adds Artist in Residence with Rec Room Arts to her artist resume.

The live podcast will welcome audience members will be welcomed to interact and introduce topics for banter. The hosts will comedically discuss social media posts, headlines of the day, and give their woke and not-so-woke commentary on a variety of topics, both the political and the asinine. Previous episodes of Woke and Half Asleep are available on Anchor.fm, Google Play, and Apple podcasts. They are also on facebook at fb.com/wokeandhalfasleep
