The Ensemble Theatre to Present Screening of TCG's LEGACY LEADERS OF COLOR VIDEO PROJECT

The Ensemble Theatre joins the Theatre Communications Group (TCG) Legacy Leaders of Color Video Project with a screening, Monday, October 23, 2017, 6:00 p.m. 3535 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002.

"We are honored and immensely excited to celebrate these trailblazing leaders," says Eileen J. Morris, Artistic Director for The Ensemble Theatre - Houston. "These figures were my heroes and sheroes; and my inspiration for the work I do today."

The Legacy Leaders of Color Video Project is a series of nine videos chronicling the stories of founding leaders of theaters of color. TCG launched the project in January 2017, working with MOPED Productions, and with support from Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. The series was launched online and has gained momentum as the leader's communicates continue the celebration with local screenings that highlight their stories.

The Ensemble Theatre kick off its celebration of the series with a screening featuring the following leaders:

- Lou Bellamy- Penumbra theatre St. Paul Minnesota

- Woodie King, Jr- New Federal Theatre-New York

- Jackie Taylor-Black Ensemble Theatre-Chicago

This screening is part of a series of special projects and presentations The Ensemble Theatre has planned outside its main stage season. The upcoming stage readings, exploratory works, and collaborative ventures are designed to showcase developing productions, cultivate now artists, and expose audiences to the variety of artistic expression Houston has to offer.

The Ensemble Theatre was founded in 1976 by the late George Hawkins to preserve African American artistic expression and enlighten, entertain and enrich a diverse community. In addition to being the oldest and largest professional African American theatre in the Southwest, it also holds the distinction of being one of the nation's largest African American theatres that owns and operates its facility with an in-house production team.

The Ensemble Theatre produces a main stage season of six contemporary and classic works devoted to the portrayal of the African American experience by local and national playwrights and artists. The theatre's Performing Arts Education program provides educational workshops, Artist-in-Residence experiences and live performances for students both off-site and at the theatre; and the Young Performers Program offers intensive summer training for children ages 6 to 17 encompassing instruction in all disciplines of the theatre arts.
