Mercury Baroque Announces 10th Season Gala 3/26

By:

Mercury Baroque is proud to announce its special 10th Season Gala entitled: Mercury Rising - ¡Fandango! Chaired by Viviana and David Denechaud and Joelle and Geoffroy Petit, the event commemorates Mercury Baroque's 10th anniversary and the ascent of the ensemble to its current status as a cornerstone of Houston's artistic community. The gala will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 7:00pm on the stage of the Wortham Center's Brown Theater.

Guests will enjoy an incomparable Spanish-themed evening of fine dining, dancing and the live music of Mercury Baroque. Maestro Antoine Plante will express the energy and excitement of Mercury Baroque with selections from Geminiani's virtuosic La Folia and Boccherini's Fandango for Guitar and Strings, both evoking the romance and ardor of Spain.

Mercury Baroque is also excited to announce that this year's Gala will specially honor YES Prep Public Schools. Founded in 1998, YES Prep is now among the nation's top public schools, and its eight campuses serve students from Houston's most impoverished neighborhoods.

Providing educational opportunities is central to Mercury Baroque's mission, and this year Mercury has begun working with YES Prep to offer music education to its students. Through this partnership, Mercury Baroque musicians have seen first-hand the profound effect that YES Prep has had on the lives of its students and we are very pleased to honor YES Prep's important role in our community.
Mercury Baroque will celebrate the launch of this season's gala through a kick-off party to be held on Thursday, January 27th at 6:00pm at the Gremillion Gallery and feature a live performance by Mercury Baroque, food from D'Amico Café and the opportunity to purchase gala tables and tickets.

Now in its 10th Season, Mercury Baroque has charmed audiences and critics the world over with its passionate and exciting performances of Baroque music on period accurate instruments. Originally founded as a chamber ensemble, Mercury has since grown into a full orchestra of young, dynamic musicians, performing a subscription series of concerts in downtown Houston, other Houston-area communities and touring both domestically and internationally. In addition to frequent performances, Mercury Baroque is also dedicated to educating future audiences and training the city's future musicians. Mercury's educational outreach programs have reached more than 10,000 children in the past 5 years alone.
