Mercury - The Orchestra Redefined performs two of the cornerstones of chamber music in January 2013.

On Friday, January 11 at 8:00 pm, Mercury will open the program at the University of Houston Clear Lake. Saturday, January 12 will feature a pre-concert lecture (at 7:15 pm) and post-concert reception at the Wortham Center, Cullen Theater. In a special third performance, Mercury will be taking "Death and the Maiden" to The John Cooper School in The Woodlands on Sunday, January 13 at 2:00 pm.

In addition, Mercury has partnered with the Center for Performing Arts Medicine at The Methodist Hospital, for "Mercury Month at Methodist Hospital"! This innovative series of four concerts will include a full dress rehearsal of Schubert's "Death and the Maiden", along with a planned performance of Mercury artists playing in the hospital halls for healing patients. For more information regarding the Methodist program, contact Evin directly: evin@mercuryhouston.org.

Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" features

Mendelssohn String Quartet Op. 44, No.1 and
Schubert String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor ("Death and the Maiden"), arr. Gustav Mahler

Originally written for string quartet, Mercury will perform these works arranged for string orchestra. This powerful program beautifully exemplifies the range of human emotion, so succinctly articulated in the works of Mendelssohn and Schubert.
