Houston Area Students to Perform Modern JULIUS CAESAR, 6/24-26

By:
Houston Area Students will present #Honorablemen? : A 21st Century Julius Caesar from June 24 - 26, 2016 at Main Street Theater - Rice Village

Julius Caesar has thrice refused the crown, yet internet chatter seems to indicate there are plans for Caesar to become the dictator of Rome. Conspiracy is in the air. The noble senator Brutus stands in the middle of a hurricane of conspirators, assassins, politicos, bloggers, and 24-hour news cyclists.

How do you make the honorable and right decisions in the age of endless spin and scrutiny?

Nine Main Street Theater students perform in a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. "In Summer Shakespeare at MST, students engage with the material and connect it to our modern world," says adaptor and director Jonathan Gonzalez. "The language is always Shakespeare, but sometimes we re-envision the setting. In #honorablemen, we vision an 'alternate America' that is part Rome, part recent America, and part imagination. We have a people's poet, a blogging soothsayer, political wives who don't stay in the back seat, and at the center, Brutus, a female senator striving to make the right decisions in a world of contradictions. Political intrigue, backroom deals, and social media all factor in this world that is fully Shakespeare's Julius Caesar as well as quite relevant to today's political climate."

There are 3 public performances: Friday and Saturday, June 24 & 25, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, June 26 at 3:00pm. Performances will be held at Main Street Theater - Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd., Houston, 77005. For tickets, call 713-524-6706 or visit MainStreetTheater.com. All tickets are $9, and seating is general admission.
