By:

ProArts, Inc. presents Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play in 2005. The production will be directed by Kristi Scott and feautres costumes by Marsha Kelly, scenery by Caro Walker, lighting by Bonnie Prucha and is produced by Jonathan Lehman. The play will run tonight, September 28–October 14, 2012.

Doubt features a stellar Maui cast including Carla Pew as Sister Aloysius, Kristin Jones as Sister James, Michael Lanzo as Father Flynn, and Kisha Milling as Mrs. Muller.

It's 1964, St. Nicholas School in the Bronx. A charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the schools' strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the iron-gloved Principal who believes in the power of fear and discipline. The winds of political change are sweeping through the community, and indeed, the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Muller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her guilt-inducing suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth and to expunge the priest from the school. Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequences.

Doubt is recommended for mature audiences. It is a 90 minute play with no intermission.

The show runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays at 3:00 pm (No performance 9/30). Kama'ina Nights: Saturday, 9/29 and Thursdays 10/4 and 10/11.
