MVT Announces Bree Peters as Artistic Director

Manoa VAlley Theatre today announced the appointment of its first named Artistic Director, longtime senior staff member Bree Kale'a Peters. The establishment of the position is an evolution of a lifelong commitment to the arts.

"I am honored to be a part of Hawaii's extremely talented arts community, and incredibly proud to make this step forward with a theatre I truly love. I hope I can lead with continued passion for our art and the artists who bring it to life on our MVT stage," says Bree Peters about her new role.

"Bree has played a key role in this theatre's evolution and in the advancement of its art" Producing Director Dwight Martin explained in making the announcement. "She has been an integral part of this theatre and has grown each position that she has held. Her most recent tenure as Associate Producer has taken on increased responsibilities for shaping the theatre's product, a product of which we all have been very proud," Martin continued. "She and I have worked closely together for many years, and will continue to do so.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Bree is a fifth-generation descendant of the earliest whalers in Hawaii. Involved in theatre throughout her life, she graduated from Punahou and majored in Theatre at the University of Puget Sound and the University of Hawaii. She began working with Manoa VAlley Theatre when it was still the Hawaii Performing Arts Company. Bree has directed regularly for MVT over the years, including MVT's highest grossing musical, Avenue Q, that ran longer than any other production in their history, having received numerous Po'okela awards, including Excellence in Directing. Most recently, she conceived, directed and produced the all-male musical revue, Boys on Broadway, starring five of Honolulu's most outstanding professional male vocalists. This production was so successful that it will be brought back this season as a major fundraiser.

Bree was one of two final candidates in the national Artsearch for the Kahilu Theatre Artistic Director position, which was a five-month long process with five levels of competition amongst twenty candidates.
