Kumu Kahua Theatre Presents Hannah Ii-Epstein's PAKALOLO SWEET ImageKumu Kahua Theatre proudly presents Hannah Ii-Epstein's Pakalolo Sweet, directed by fan-favorite Wil Kahele, running August 23 - September 23.

Junior Boy is a young Hawaiian man who comes from a lineage of marijuana growers on the North Shore of O'ahu and is now proudly expecting a baby with his girlfriend, Nani. During a night of karaoke, beer, and weed, the medical uses, benefits, and cultural aspects of marijuana in pre-contact Hawai'i are explored. What follows is unexpected and heartbreaking as we witness Junior Boy's struggle to do what he believes is best for his 'ohana. This prequel to Not One Batu follow's Papa's family-and the inevitable hardships arising when indigenous values are systematically marginalized.

Pakalolo Sweet is the second one-act in Ii-Epstein's trilogy of drug exploration plays set on the North Shore of O'ahu. Opening and threaded through with lanai karaoke, this play focuses on Uncle Makana's 'ohana.

This production contains adult language and themes. The play runs: Thursday, Friday & Saturday 8pm: August 23, 24, 25, 30, 31; September 1, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 2018. Sundays 2pm: August 26; September 2, 9, 16, *23, 2018.
