Cirque, Dance and Music Productions Set for DUSSELDORF FESTIVAL, Sept 18-Oct 6

By:

"düsseldorf festival!" is like the arrival of a gigantic futuristic circus that puts a whole city under its spell. For three weeks (September 18 - October 6, 2013) the festival, now in its 23rd year, brings some of the most innovative and fantastic performances to town -- nouveau cirque, large-scale dance productions, fresh chamber music concepts, and everything in between - for almost 60 performances by about 500 International Artists, including 5 Germany premiers.

Highlights include: "Ghost Track," an East/West dance piece by LeineRoebana Dance Company in which dancers from Europe and Indonesia create new dance forms. New forms is the festival's loose theme and a good fit for three more modern circus groups: "SEQUENCE 8," the current show of Canadian world-class artists "Les 7 Doigts de la Main," is a high-speed trip into the realm of emotions; "Plan B" is a sense-confusing production by Aurelien Bory and New York avant-garde director Phil Sotanoff combining everyday life and magic; and Australian chamber music groups Circa and Quatuor Debussy co-perform "Opus," blending music by Schostakowitsch and acrobatic sequences.

Hitchcock's classic movie "Psycho" gets a new perspective when actor Matthias Brandt and pianist Jens Thomas perform it as a musical reading. Detroit-based funk and soul musician Amp Fiddler will perform global music, and Hip Hop is represented by the show "RAGE," by African group Compagnie Revolution.
