White Rooster is a darkly funny tale of love, loss and the strange things we inherit. After a family tragedy, Mina is pulled into a world of restless spirits, old curses and mysterious traditions. Her fiancé won’t stay dead, her sister won’t stay buried and a rooster won’t be ignored. Blending spooky folklore with offbeat humor, White Rooster is a haunting tale of grief, family and the messiness of moving on.
MINA (20s)
A thoughtful and emotionally resilient young woman burdened by grief and ancestral trauma. Once tender and hopeful, she becomes haunted by the ghost of her dead fiancé, as she settles into her new life as a servant to her mourning in-laws.
PONG (20s)
Mina’s charismatic yet unstable fiancé, born of a ghost marriage. In life, he is magnetic but troubled, grappling with addiction, abandonment, and spiritual displacement. In death, he returns as a hideous rooster man, still struggling with the same problems he had when he was alive.
MOTHER (40s–60s)
Pragmatic, controlling, and steeped in superstition. Justifies cruelty through survivalism. She’s funny and sometimes terrifying.
JUNE (20s)
Mina’s ghostly sister. Ethereal and wounded, she is both innocent and vengeful. Rarely seen fully, her presence haunts the play.
