Breakdown
BOB WALLACE - (Late 30's to mid 40's). Major singing star and the guiding force behind the song and dance team of Wallace and Davis. Superb singer with a crooning style who moves very well (tapping a plus). Baritone
PHIL DAVIS - (late 20's to mid 30's) Fun-loving, go-getting song and dance partner of the Wallace-Davis team. A clown, operator and incorrigible ladies' man determined to see his friend happy. Boyish charm and sex appeal. Strong jazz and tap needed. Bari-tenor.
BETTY HAYNES - (mid to late 30's). Sensible, responsible half of the Haynes sisters. Destined to be a star but hesitant to take the spotlight, devoted to her younger sister. Rich chest mix sound with soprano extension. Must move well. JUDY HAYNES-(early 20's) Younger, more ambitious, slightly scheming Haynes Sister. Wholesome and adorable, but sexy and flirty, a charmer whom no man can resist. Strong jazz and tap required, with chest mix singing voice.
GENERAL HENRY WAVERLY- (late 50's - 60's). Retired Army General, once a powerful leader now struggling to run an inn in Vermont. Has great principle and dignity, warm and compassionate under his rigid military exterior. Non-singing role.
MARTHA WATSON - (40's - 60's). Once a Broadway star, now the general's housekeeper at the Inn. Dry, wisecracking sense of humor that runs the General's life in spite of his protestations. An irrepressible meddler, but believes it is in the best interests of those concerned. A winning character-comedienne with a clarion belt voice.
SUSAN WAVERLY - 9-12 years old. General's granddaughter, lovable and outgoing. Wise beyond her years and deeply cares for her grandfather. Bitten by the show biz bug, must have belt voice and able to move well.
RALPH SHELDRAKE - (mid to late 30's) Army buddy of Wallace and Davis, now a major television executive with Ed Sullivan Show. Fast talking, New York professional. Baritone.
RITA AND RHODA - (mid 20's to early 30's). Bob and Phil's star chorus girls. Brash, sexy and fun, perhaps not the smartest, strong Tap and Jazz skills.
EZEKIEL FOSTER - (mid 20's to late 50's) Taciturn New Englander who helps out at the Inn. Takes life at a slow pace. Can double.
MIKE (Mid 20's to late 30's). Bob and Phil's stage manager. Can be overly dramatic and hysterical, but gets things done. Can double.
ENSEMBLE: Male and female ensemble of dancers, early 20's to mid 30's. Strong in ballroom, jazz and tap. Must sing very well, will double in the ensemble roles.
