Equity Principal Auditions:

Thursday, September 29, 2011 Chelsea Studios

10 AM - 6 PM 151 West 26th Street, 6th Floor
Lunch from 1:30 – 2:30. New York City

If auditioning for Doc, Krupke, Gladhand or Schrank, prepare a monologue, 2 minutes or less. All others, prepare a song in the style of the show that shows off your ability to tell a story. Singing from the score is encouraged. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Seeking, for possible future replacements in the currently running tour:



Maria:

Early to mid 20s, Puerto Rican. Requires a beautiful soprano, excellent actress with a gorgeous legit voice.
Fluent in Spanish a plus.

Tony:

Mid 20s. Handsome, masculine. Working-class. Excellent actor. Especially looking for someone who is not your typical leading man. Strong legit tenor voice.


Lt. Schrank:

Man, 45-55. The enforcer. And a racist. Strong actor required (non-singing).


Riff:

Tony's best friend. Courageous and cocky. Great actor and dancer,
strong baritone singer.

Action, A-Rab, Snowboy, Big Deal:

Young Caucasian men. Roles for actor/dancer/singers. Must be trained in ballet and jazz dancing.)

Baby John:

Young Caucasian character. Looks younger than all the other Jets, but not necessarily the smallest. An innocent.

Anybody’s:

Young woman. Tomboy who is just looking to belong. Small and underdeveloped. Requires a beautiful singing voice for the solo “Somewhere.”

Diesel:

Young Caucasian man. The muscle of the Jets, large and imposing masculine presence.


Anita:

Puerto Rican. Young, fiery girl. Role for a very strong trained dancer and singer (mezzo) and a terrific actress. Must also be fluent in Spanish.


Bernardo:

Puerto Rican. Maria's older brother. Proud and somewhat arrogant boy. Terrific dancer, actor and singer. F
luent in Spanish.

Chino:

Young Puerto Rican. Role for an actor/dancer/singer. Must be trained in ballet and jazz dancing. Fluency in Spanish is a must.


Doc:

Man, 50-60. The genial drugstore owner. Strong actor required (non-singing).


Officer Krupke:

Man, 35-40. A cop on the beat. A bit of a buffoon, and a sadist. Actor understudies Schrank, Doc and Gladhand. Strong actor required (non-singing).


Gladhand:

Man, 35-40. Social worker. Good sense of humor. Strong character actor required (non-singing). Understudies Schrank, Doc and Krupke.
