No appointment necessary. The producer will run all aspects of this call. Equity Principal Audition procedures arenot in effect, and no Equity Monitor will be provided.
Please prepare a brief contemporary comedic monologue, preferably no more than three minutes in length.
Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.
All roles available unless otherwise specified:
THIS by Melissa James Gibson. Dir: David Christopher. 1st reh: 10/4/10. Runs 1029–11/14 (weekends only).
A group of friends facing middle age, mortality, betrayal and parenthood with wit and warmth.
Marrell:
African-American, 38. College friend of Jane. New mother, jazz singer, feeling exhausted and disappointed with her life these days.
Tom:
Caucasian, early 40s. New father, Marrell’s husband. Woodworker. Also vaguely dissatisfied, but loves his kid.
Alan:
Jewish, 40. College friend of Jane and Marrell. Gay. Professional mnemonist (has perfect recall).
Jean-Pierre:
French, late 30s. Doctor, works for international medical aid organization.
Jane:
CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. Caucasian, 38.

Comedy about a boy with ADHD, his parents who are trying to do their best for him, and the society that breeds distraction in everyone.
Mama:
30s or 40s. Smart, warm, wry. Dedicated but distractable,
Dad:
30s or 40s. Guy’s guy. Working-class background. Designs car crashes.
Jesse/Dr. Daniel Broder/Dr. Jinks/Dr. Karnes/Actor:
A boy and his doctors, played by an adult.
Dr. Zavala/Carolyn/Sherry:
Female roles. Child psychologist and two moms of kids with issues.
Mrs. Holly/Dr. Waller/Vera:
Female roles. Overworked school teacher, an educational neuropsychologist and a mom.
Natalie/Waitress/Nurse:
Female roles. Teenager and two others.
Theatre’s statement: “All ethnicities encouraged to attend.”
Directions to the Baird Center, provided by the Theatre: “Take NJ Transit, either bus or train, to the South Orange Avenue stop in South Orange. Cross South Orange Ave from station, look for Vose (Village Trattoria on corner). Walk one block up Vose, make left onto Mead Street. Building is on right. Take the elevator up to the third floor.”
