BREAKDOWN

Note: the role of Feste has been cast.

Additional characters/doubling will be assigned as needed.

Feste - A whimsical clown who plays Bluegrass/folk music throughout the show. (CAST)

Orsino - A wealthy landowner, single and in love with love. He owns a huge and successful horse farm; having capitalized on the pasture and good water of Kentucky to build an empire. He is super rich and treats the world as you might expect of someone of that ilk. Somewhat self-absorbed. 30 to 50 yrs.

Olivia - Scion of a successful Bourbon distilling family. Her father founded and grew the business, died and left it to a son who has only recently died as well, leaving her in charge of an empire. She is the MOST eligible young woman for many miles around but remains in mourning for her brother. She is smart, witty and somewhat impetuous. Thinks she’s not interested. 25 to 40 yrs.

Viola - Young but worldly, especially since she has just been in a riverboat wreck where many, including her twin brother, Sebastian have drowned. She cross dresses to protect herself in a foreign land and ends up the center of the silliness. She is sharp and witty and seemingly sure of herself. She’s always in the middle of “it.” Early 20’s.

Sebastian - The drowned brother mentioned above that is actually very much alive. He looks like Viola except he’s a guy. Also smart, witty and seemingly sure. Makes the best of any situation. Early 20’s.

Maria - Olivia’s maid, her confidante, her dogsbody. Smarter than most people in the play, she is witty and sassy. She loves Sir Toby and does her best to keep him well. Suffers nary a fool. She knows all, sees all. 30 to 50 yrs.

Sir Toby - Olivia’s Uncle. He is something of an outcast due to his predilection for drink, jigs, brawling and fox hunting. He is a ne’er-do-well in the highest degree. Foster Brooks on horseback. Ageless.

Sir Andrew - An old friend of Sir Toby’s from school and the younger days. He is a callow idiotic trust fund baby all grown up. A man of leisure and master of none. Fancies himself a ladies’ man and happily funds Sir Toby’s current binge in hopes of wooing Olivia. Aristotrash. Mid 30’s.

Malvolio - Olivia’s steward. He is a holdover from her father’s day; he began working in the distillery and worked his way up to his current position. He is conservative and intolerant of anyone who isn’t acting properly, Sir Toby’s polar opposite. A prime example of a little power gone to one’s head. The quintessential Mall Cop. 30 to 50 yrs.
