Preparation
Please prepare 32 bars in the style of the show. Also, please plan to arrive ten to fifteen minutes before your requested time to fill out audition paperwork.
Also bring TWO (2) copies of your résumé and most recent headshot, stapled back to back.

Breakdown
Seeking skilled performers, singers, and dancers for all principal and ensemble roles
FEMALE:
Millie Dillmount (Lead):
A “thoroughly modern” small-town girl from Kansas who moves to New York to pursue her dream: find a career and marry her wealthy boss. Millie is a high-spirited, irrepressible young woman with masterful stenography skills, a quick mind, and a warm heart, which makes for both crazy situations and wild adventures (Mezzo-Soprano, G#3-Ab3-E5). Please note that the actress must be able to dance, and tap dance, well.
Miss Dorothy (Supporting):
A wealthy and kindhearted, if somewhat naïve, young woman, Miss Dorothy dreams of learning “how the other half lives” by spending time among the poor of New York. She quickly becomes Millie’s best friend, and later inadvertently finds herself the subject of both a love triangle and a kidnapping plot (Soprano, B3-C6/Soprano C). Please note that the actress must be able to tap dance.
Mrs. Meers (Supporting):
A washed-up former actress who has become a criminal mastermind in her middle age. Mrs. Meers runs the “Hotel Priscilla for Single Girls,” a front for her white slavery ring. Equal parts bitter, conniving, and egotistical, Mrs. Meers will stop at nothing to get what she wants (Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, E3-A#4/Bb4). Please note that the actress must be able to speak in an exaggerated/mock Chinese accent.
Muzzy van Hossmere (Supporting):
A gifted African-American performer and generally wise individual. Muzzy is a glamorous torch singer and member of the New York cultural elite. Though she married wealthy, she believes in the beauty of love, and devises a clever way to teach her stepchildren the same lesson (Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, G#3/Ab3-D5).
Ms. Peg Flannery (Featured):
The no-nonsense head of the steno pool at Sincere Trust Insurance Company. Though largely humorless and stern, Ms. Flannery does have a hidden sentimental streak, especially when it comes to men and their idiocy (Mezzo-Soprano). Please note that the actress must be able to tap dance.
The Priscilla Girls--Ruth, Rita, Alice, Cora, Lucille, Ethel (Featured):
A group of aspiring actresses and hopefuls who live at the Hotel Priscilla for Single Girls. Each girl has her own unique qualities (from nasally Ruth to flirty Alice), but they are all joined by a love of New York, an eye for men, and their determination to succeed (Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano/Alto).
Mama (Featured):
A middle-aged/elderly Chinese woman and the mother of Bung Foo and Ching Ho. Mama appears at the very end of the musical to provide her sons with a happy ending; this actress will likely be double-cast in the Ensemble. Spoken.
MALE:
Jimmy Smith (Lead):
A carefree, handsome young man who coasts his way through life. Jimmy originally professes himself a playboy and straight-shooter through and through, only to fall in love with Millie and change his womanizing ways. He occasionally talks tough, but is ultimately a kindhearted man (Tenor, C3-A4).
Trevor Graydon (Supporting):
A wealthy professional and President of the Sincere Trust Insurance Company. Mr. Graydon is obsessed with efficiency and profits, which makes him somewhat oblivious to flirtation (especially when it comes to Millie, who he calls “John” for her stenography skills). Despite his business-oriented mind, though, Trevor has a warm, sentimental side (Baritone, A2-G4).
Ching Ho (Supporting):
A Chinese-American man who works for Mrs. Meers as a part of her white slavery ring. Unlike his brother, Ching Ho is a romantic dreamer, and when he falls in love with Miss Dorothy, he decides to join the heroes in their attempt to bring down the villainous Mrs. Meers (Baritone, A#2/Bb2-E4). Please note that the actor must be able to speak in both Cantonese and English and sing in Mandarin.
Bun Foo (Supporting):
A Chinese-American man who works for Mrs. Meers as part of her white slavery ring. Bun Foo is far more pragmatic and focused than his brother, and is determined to do whatever it takes to get his Mama out of China and to the United States—but even he has a limit to his patience (Tenor, C3-E4). Please note that the character must be able to speak in both Cantonese and English and sing in Mandarin.
ENSEMBLE:
The stenographers, actors, clubgoers, party guests, jailbirds, and general population of New York. There are opportunities for small solos/spoken lines among the Ensemble.
