BREAKDOWN
[CAPTAIN VON TRAPP]
(Male, 40-50, Baritone) Strong actor, with a commanding presence. A retired naval officer and proud Austrian. Highly organized and regimented, a bit closed off. Sensitive, but hardened from losing his wife. A true patriot to his country and deeply opposed to the Nazi Party. Good mover.
[LIESL]
(Female, 18+ to play 16, Soprano with strong belt/mix, Any Ethnicity). Captain Von Trapp’s eldest child. A teen on the verge of womanhood; innocent, but also knowing. Strong dancer and singer. This role is intended to be cast as Non-AEA.
[MAX]
(Male, 35-55, Bari-tenor, Any Ethnicity) Witty and clever impresario who can be charmingly pushy when pursuing what he wants. Strong character actor with excellent comedic timing.
[ELSA]
(Female, 30-40. Mezzo-Soprano) A wealthy widow. A Baroness. Of good stock and breeding. She is sophisticated, charming, and clever.
[MOTHER ABBESS]
(Female, 45-65, Soprano, Any Ethnicity) Wise, kind and powerful, with real status. Strong actor, and singer.
[ROLF] (
18+ to play 17, Tenor, Caucasian. A clean cut, innocent youth with some angst underneath. Impressionable. Strong dancer and singer. This role is intended to be cast as non-AEA.

[SISTER BERTHE] (Female, 40-65, Any Ethnicity) - Mistress of Novices, prudish, straight laced with a quick tongue, extremely stern, loves rules. Good singer.
[SISTER MARGARETTA] (Female, 35-60, Any Ethnicity) - Mistress of Postulants, very kind, warm, understanding and concerned. Good singer
[SISTER SOPHIA] (Female, 25-35, Any Ethnicity, NON-AEA) -Younger, fresher, nun. Good singer.
[FRANZ ] (Male, 40s/50s, Caucasian) Von Trapp’s butler. Rather formal but not without spirit, Efficient, dry.
[ADMIRAL VON SCHREIBER] (Male, 40s/50s) Stern, imposing. A retired Admiral in the Austrian Navy and neighbor of Captain Von Trapp.
