NOTE: Naomi Iizuka’s adaptation of Hawthorne’s SCARLET LETTER concerns Hester Prynne, a young single mother in Puritan-era Boston, branded and reviled after an adulterous affair leaves her pregnant.
Seeking the following role only:
Hester Prynne:
Mid 20s – mid 30s; seamstress in 18th century Boston. When her husband is lost at sea and presumed dead she has a passionate affair with the town parson, and gives birth to their daughter Pearl. Shunned and disparaged by the townspeople. Hester is a young woman of vital sexuality, force and ironic humor. Intelligent, willful, wise and proud, perhaps to a fault, she sees through the hypocrisy of the time even as she struggles against it.
