Breakdown

A rousing and bawdy Southern"fairy tale" set in 18th century rural Mississippi. All should sing and move very well. Elements of improv and story theatre styles are involved as well as high energy square and country dances. All play multiple ensemble roles as well. All should have a good sense of physical comedy and timing as well as an excellent sense of"play" and enjoyment in being part of an ensemble. Actors experienced in playing instruments such as guitar, banjo, fiddle, mouth harp or harmonica are a"plus", but not required. Music is bluegrass, country, folk style.

SEEKING:

Jamie Lockhart (the Bandit of the Wood) - plays 20's-early 30's - Strong Baritone to G. A"gent and a robber all in one." Charming, handsome, sexy, full of himself and his idyllic life of duality as an upright gentleman of Rodney, Mississippi and as the Bandit of the Woods taking whatever and whoever he pleases. Enjoys his life behind the bandit mask, free of responsibility, beholding to no one but himself.

Rosamund - plays early 20's - Mezzo to F. Beautiful, ripe spoiled young daughter of Clement Musgrove. Romantic lazy daydreamer with an independent spirit. The perfect match to Jamie.

Salome - Character woman. Plays 30's-40's. Mezzo to F. Clement's ambitious, shrewd, scheming, discontented, jealous second wife.

Clement Musgrove - Character man. Late 30's-40's. Hi-Baritone to A. A wealthy good natured planter and Rosamund's trusting yet naive father.

Little Harp - 20's-30's. Baritone to G. The most gruesome bandit in the history of the Trace. A violent, horny, grimy weasel of a man fearing only the Bandit of the Wood.

Goat - plays late teens - early 20's. Hi-Baritone to B flat. An innocent straightforward country simpleton just trying to get ahead in life. Dumber than molasses.

Big Harp - 20's-30's. Baritone to E. A cut off filthy head that lives in a trunk. Little Harp's elder brother and the brains of the notorious bandit duo. His head was cut off when he was caught for thieving. Trapped and frustrated at his state of affairs and lack of ability to womanize.

Raven - Younger character woman. The Harp brothers' talking raven. Clever, prophetic. May double with Airie or Goat's Mother.

Airie - late teens-early 20's. Soprano. Goat's younger sister. Just as dumb as her brother.

Goat & Airie's mother - Character woman. 30's. Mezzo. Rough hewn country woman. Not much smarter than her children.
