SEEKING

:

GLORIA, 16, Black/Biracial, Headstrong, whip-smart, ambitious, Gloria worships at the altar of a mother she never knew while straining at the boundaries her grandmother erected. She’s coming into her sensuality and growing up much too fast.

MRS. ELKINS, 51, Black, Imperious and rule-bound, Mrs. Elkins reigns her household with an iron fist, but her unfulfilled potential simmers underneath. She hasn’t laughed in years. She has a sexiness and youthfulness that she’s dying to access.

LUCILLE, 62, Black, A retired teacher, Lucille suffers no fools. She is never afraid to tell truths that no one else will. She loves being a caretaker and is the conscience of the play. She can only get out of bed most days if she knows she can be useful.

LOUIS, 29, Black/Biracial, A troubled war vet searching for safety and tired of wandering, Louis is a powder keg waiting to detonate, but is looking for a quieter existence and a place to call home. He drinks a lot of milk.

CRUTCH, 15, Black, Naive, energetic, and hopelessly in love with Gloria, Crutch can only be happy if he knows he’s making other people happy. He has a sensitive poet’s soul that is driven by longing.
