Performers without e-mail may call (617) 585-5684, Monday – Friday from 10 – 5 and leave a message with a contact phone number and the hour during which you would like to be seen. You will receive a phone call confirming your audition time.

Audition slots are FIVE (5) minutes long. Each actor has a minimum of TWO (2) minutes to perform required audition material. Prepare 32 bars of ONE (1) song in the style of the show. Songs from the show are acceptable. Also prepare ONE (1) short comedic monologue, contemporary or classical. Prepare appropriate material of your choosing, which may be from one or more of the season’s shows. During your five-minute audition appointment, you may audition for one or more roles in the season. Bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose.

Scripts are available for review at StageSource, 88 Tremont St, Suite 720, Boston, and also at the audition. A reader will also be provided at the audition.

At this audition, the Theatre is seeking Equity performers for all roles in the following shows.

Note: No housing is available for out-of-area performers.

BIG RIVER: THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN

Music/Lyrics: Roger Miller

Book: William Hauptman

Adapted from the novel by Mark Twain

Director: Spiro Veloudos

1st rehearsal: August 9, 2011. Runs September 2 – October 8, 2011

Seeking:

Huckleberry Finn: Teenager, a rough around the edges, practically orphaned boy, who prefers freedom to domesticity


Tom Sawyer: Teenager, Huck’s friend, clever but often overly dramatic.

Pap Finn: Late 30s-early 50s, Huck’s alcoholic father who abandoned him as a boy. Returns to collect Huck’s trust fund.

Judge Thatcher: Mid 40s –mid 60s, a man tethered to the letter of the law.

A Young Fool: Late teens-early 20s, a young man who loves to gossip

Harvey Wilkes/Silas Phelps: Mid 40s-60s

Mark Twain/Doctor: 30s-50s

Hank, Ben Rodgers, Jo Harper: Teenagers, Tom and Huck’s Schoolmates

Alice: African-American Woman, a slave

Alice’s Daughter: African-American younger woman, a slave

3 Ensemble Women:

2 African-American women, 1 woman any ethnicity. All singers, to play a variety of smaller parts.

5 Ensemble Men:

2 African-American Men, 3 men any ethnicity. All singers, to play a variety of smaller parts.

(Some roles/parts will be doubled).

The Roles of Widow Douglas, The Duke, The King, Jim, Mary Jane Wilkes, and Miss Watson/Strange Woman have already been cast

We will be auditioning for understudies or replacements for these roles.

Ken: Jovial, loud, larger than life--like Fats himself.

Nell: Confident, charming and worldly.
