Please prepare a brief, standard R&B/rock song that shows off voice and range (unless “character singer” is notated in breakdown below; in that case, prepare something appropriate for that character). Please do not sing music from the show. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided.
Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Casting director’s notes: “ACTORS SHOULD BE PHYSICALLY LIMBER AND MUST MOVE WELL. We are seeking strong male and female singers who move very well.”
Scar:
Male lion, mid 30s – mid 40s. Mufasa’s brother and Simba’s uncle. Evil and maniacal ,but still capable of humor and high style. Will do anything to be the King of the Pridelands. Role requires an exceptional actor (classical training is helpful) who is also a character singer.
Mufasa:
Strong, masculine male lion, mid 30s – mid 40s. King of the African Pridelands. Regal, omnipotent and powerful. Must have physical strength and have an excellent, rich baritone voice.
Rafiki:
Female African baboon, late 20s – mid 40s. Soulful but comedic Sings “The Circle of Life”. Must possess an excellent, rich unique South African-style belt voice.
Adult Simba:
African male lion, late teens – early 30s. Seeking actor/singer. Must have sex appeal, charm and an urban sensibility, as well as a strong pop/rock singing voice. Should be a high baritone and able to sing to an “A”. Must be in excellent physical condition and dance and/or move very well. Should be 5’8” – 6’2”.
Adult Nala:
Very attractive African female lion, late teens – late 20s. Has sex appeal and charm. Seeking actor/singer. Should have excellent pop belt to an “E”. Must be in excellent physical shape and have great strength and presence. Must dance/and or move well.
Timon:
Male meerkat, late 20s – mid 40s. Wisecracking, New York-urban, comic character actor-type. Stand-up comedy experience is a plus. No taller than 5’8”. Character singer. Actor must move well and be comfortable operating a puppet.
Pumbaa:
Male warthog, late 20s – mid 40s. Timon’s sidekick. Not so bright, but lovable. Actor should have strong comedic skills. Somewhat larger frame or body type is preferred. Character singer. A gravelly, distinctive voice is good.
Zazu:
Male parrot-like (or hornbill) bird, early 30s – mid 40s. Proper and somewhat befuddled English butler with a cynical outlook on life, but completely dedicated to the king. Actor must possess strong comedic skills. Character singer. Must be comfortable operating a puppet.
Shenzi (female), Banzai (male) and Ed (male):
Hyenas, late 20s – early 40s. Funny, maniacal. Street-smart and urban. Performers must have strong rock and roll singing voices. Must move well and be comfortable operating puppets. Actor playing Ed will also cover Timon and Zazu.
Young Simba:
Male lion cub, age 9-12. Future King of the Pridelands. Looking for a natural, young actor/singer who is able to move well. A natural talent with charm and charisma, able to hold the stage on his own with confidence and truth. Looking for kids with personality. ACTOR MUST BE UNDER 58 INCHES.
Young Nala:
Female lion cub, age 9 – 12. Confident young lady cub; keeps Simba in his place. Looking for a natural, young actress/singer who is able to move well. Natural talent with personality, confidence and strength. Looking for kids with personality. ACTRESS MUST BE UNDER 58 INCHES.
