Seeking:
Artie Shaughnessy Understudy:
Role CAST. Seeking an understudy. Male, 40s. A zookeeper and amateur composter from Queens; carrying on an affair with his downstairs neighbor while living upstairs with his mentally unstable wife. Loyal despite his betrayal; struggling to reconcile his unrealized dreams of fame and recognition with the realities of his somewhat small and routine life.
Bananas Shaughnessy:
Role CAST. Seeking an understudy. Female, 40s. Artie’s mentally unstable though loving wife. Struggling to keep even the slightest grip on her husband, her son, her life, and most importantly, reality. Though somewhat bananas, she is sharp, aware, insightful and, in her own way, wise.
Bunny Flingus:
Female, 30s to 40s. Artie and Banana’s downstairs neighbor; having an affair with Artie. A feral, stealth missile of a woman; knows what she wants and goes after it with gusto. Though she may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, she is sexy, confident, ambitious and affectionate; she’s after the bigger life she knows she was destined to have, and is determined to take Artie with her.
Ronnie Shaughnessy:
Male, 17. Artie and Banana’s only child. A skinny, tortured, teenage loner capable of violence – and looks it. Lonely, sad, and desperate to make his mark on the world.
Billy Einhorn:
Male, 40s. Artie’s childhood friend turned big time Hollywood film director. Talks the talk, walks the walk, buzzes with the glitz and the glamour, but still a sensitive, compassionate neighborhood boy at heart.
Corrinna Stroller:
Female, 20s. Deaf Hollywood starlet and Billy’s lover. A luminously beautiful, regal, swan of a young woman; the heroine you instantly care for, and would never expect to be clumsier than a circus clown off screen.
Head Nun:
Female, late 30s to 50. The fearsome, no-nonsense leader of the nun pack. Authoritative and commanding; you don’t mess with her. Likes beer.
2nd Nun:
Female, late 20s to late 30s. The “middle” child; the peacemaker if there’s an argument between the other nuns, yet quick to point the finger when the blame is placed on her. Naïve, sheltered, in awe of life outside the convent.
Little Nun:
Female, 20s. The runt of the litter, and very much the youngest child. Obedient, yet trouble-prone, with the rebellious spirit of an adolescent; rabid pop culture lover; excited by and obsessed with anything she doesn’t have access to in the convent.
MP:
Male, 30s. Authoritative, direct, a man on a mission.
