BREAKDOWN

KELECHI:
(Early 30's) Black African from Nigeria. Bestselling novelist and Pulitzer Finalist. She’s an Igbo gal, but also a very American woman. Hard, complicated and unwell. All though she has buried her accent into a very standard east coast American Dialect. She often unknowingly goes into her original Igbo dialect in times of duress.

GODWIN/PAPA:
(Late 50's or older) Black African from Nigeria. A Proud Igbo Man. The fading Patriarch. Traditional. He is stern, gruff but not without humor. Holds regrets in his heart. He speaks English with a heavy Igbo accent.

BEATRICE/THE GIRL:
(Late teens) Black African from Nigeria. She is a house girl. She says little but knows much, and she’s sharp as a tack. She has an Igbo accent. (CAST)

OBINA:
(Early 30’s) Black African from Nigeria. An Igbo man. He has lived many years in London, and is the former servant of the Ekejuba's. He was once small and shy. Now he's big and strong. And though has turned himself into a man of great class and wealth. His heart is still soft. He can easily code switch between a British and Igbo accent.

THE WOMEN:
(Ages range) Black African, from Nigeria. Igbo women. The gossips, the prophets, the lineage. They are daughters, aunties and mothers. They are Kelechi’s ghosts. Their numbers grow throughout the play. They are always singing, and know all things. They always speak in the Igbo language or Pidgeon English
