SEEKING:
Jay Gatsby:
Caucasian Male, 35. A romantic idealist. Suave and debonair with a disarming smile and a deep seriousness which comes from a life not fully told. He carries secrets and the damage of a troubled life. There is something other-worldly about him.
Nick Caraway:
Caucasian Male, 32. The voice of the play. A Midwesterner, a gentle man and an observer. He is both the moral conscience and documenter of the narrative as well as our compass.
Tom Buchanan:
Caucasian Male, 34. Daisy’s husband. A muscular and cruel man. Both narcissistic and egocentric. He lives in a cosseted world where his physical presence, his money and attitude make for a trouble free life. If he excels at anything it is running from life and fighting back criticism. He exploits his position, power, and wealth in a shameless and ugly way.
Jordan Baker:
Caucasian Female, 35. A professional golfer with a tall, athletic build. Aloof, rich and bored. A slider through life.
Myrtle Wilson:
Caucasian Female, 38. A New Yorker. Tom’s girlfriend, Busty and curvaceous but not overweight. Overtly sensual and drawn to the sparkle of wealth. It will be her downfall. Also greatly enjoys her drink.
George Wilson:
Caucasian Male, 45. Myrtle’s husband. A New Yorker, resigned and beaten by life. Once he could have been a contender, now he is an also-ran. He is a mechanic, a man who works with his hands more than his head. He is shapeless and uncomfortable in his body, in the world. It is hard work containing a wife like Myrtle.
Meyer Wolfshiem:
Caucasian Male, 55. A small Jewish man. He is mysterious, we learn little about him except that he is Gatsby’s confidant and possibly the catalyst to his wealth. He has a murky past and secrecy about him that should make us uncomfortable. He may not exact violence, but knows a man who does. This track also plays MR. MCKEE and COP.
