| Breakdown
SEEKING: FATHER/SNAKE/BALLADEER/TIGER KEEPER/NARRATOR: Male, must at least be old enough to be the father of a 10 year old, must move very well, dance training a plus. The FATHER conveys a sweet, paternal quality but has a hint of pain in him, as he is a widower. The SNAKE is a personification of a snake – slithery, slinky, a touch of sly evil. The BALLADEER is open on interpretation. The NARRATOR has a whimsical, Cat in the Hat charm. Vocal range: Solid high baritone. SEEKING NAME, will consider all. EVE/BARBARA/ELLA/PASSIONELLA/MOTHER: Female, late 20’s – mid 30’s, must move very well, dance training essential. EVE is like a wise child – innocent but certain. She has no guile and no obvious feminity – just a natural loveliness. BARBARA is a spoiled, petulant, tempestuous siren. She is completely of the body and carnal and passion. (A comedic Maggie the Cat). ELLA is very charactery and can go a number of ways but think waif-like. PASSIONELLA is a screen sex siren – platinum blonde uber-Marilyn Monroe. Vocal range: Need strong singer with great range. SEEKING NAME, will consider all. ADAM Male, about 28-35. Good physical actor, capable of physical comedy. He is somewhat of an innocent, too. Boy-ish but stubborn. He should not be a strong male presence but more adolescent in feel. He has bark but no bite. And when he is warm and sweet, he should be heartwarming and dear. Vocal range: Tenor or Lyric Baritone. Should move well. SEEKING NAME, will consider all. LITTLE GIRL: Girl, Caucasian, around 10 years old. Very expressive and sympathetic face and since she will never leave the stage, she must have great focus and stamina and be bright. She watches the whole show and must be able to respond to characters. SANJAR: Male, 30 – 40, could be Arabic, Caucasian, African-American, or Latino. Leading man, strong and masculine, good body a plus. He is a mighty Arabian warrior (comedic – over the top dramatic). We will play this story with Arabic suggestion. Vocal range: Baritone. Should move well, and have strong musical theatre dance background. FLIP: Male, Caucasian, 28-35. James Dean/Brando/Elvis and Dylan all rolled into one. A Punk Beatnik. He oozes 60’s cool. Handsome, rock-star sexuality. Vocal range: Tenor or Lyric Baritone. Should move well, and have strong musical theatre dance background. GEORGE: Male, Caucasian 28-42. Bright looking but OCD fastidious. A bit of a nerd. Sweet but spineless. Think Seymour in Little Shop. Vocal range: Tenor or Lyric Baritone. Should move well, and have strong musical theatre dance background. KING ARIK: Male, 35 – 55, could be Caucasian, African-American, Latino, or Middle- Eastern. Large presence, Kingly. A big - but not overweight - guy would be great. Vocal range: Baritone. Should move well, and have dance training. GUARD/MR. FALLIBLE: Male, 30’s – 50’s, could be Caucasian, African-American, Latino, or Middle-Eastern. Our most charactery role. A Bialystock/Pseudolus type. Good physical comic. Vocal range: open. Must move well, and have dance training. NADJIRA: Female, 20 – 30, any ethnicity. Strong dance role. Beautiful, with a killer body. Vocal range: open. Must be strong dancer. CHARACTER WOMAN: Female, 35 – 50, Caucasian or African American, character. Good comedic skills and good dance background. Vocal range: open. Strong singer who moves well. 3 WOMEN: Female, 20 – early 30’s, all ethnicities. Singer/dancers. Vocal range: open. Strong singers, good at harmony, with strong musical theatre dance background. (Non-Equity: $150 per week + EMC points)
