SEEKING:

Rona Lisa Peretti:

(Female, 30-45). A suit-wearing, award-winning classic realtor, also a former Putnam County Spelling Bee winner and returning moderator. Although a kind woman at heart, she has an occasionally acerbic sense of humor. Improvisational skills would be useful. Soprano (up to A), sings The I Love You Song (role of Olive's Mom).

Mitch Mahoney:

(Male, 25-45). Ideally seeking African American actor, but will consider all ethnicities. An ex-con serving community service hours as comfort counselor for the spellers. Tenor/high baritone, up to A (B falsetto), sings Prayer of the Comfort Counselor.

Olive Ostrovsky:

(Female, 20-35). Character is age 10-14, but played by adult actor. A newcomer to competitive spelling, sweet, innocent, cute in a quirky way. Olive longs for the affection and attention of her absent parents. Throughout her childhood her best friend has been her dictionary. Soprano/high belt (low A to high F sharp), sings My Friend the Dictionary and The I Love You Song.

William Barfee:

(Male, 20-35). Character is age 10-14, but played by adult actor. A Putnam County Spelling Bee finalist last year who was eliminated because of an allergic reaction to peanuts. A scruffy know-it-all with a chronic sinus condition, William spells with the aid of his foot. Character tenor (low C to high B flat), sings “Magic Foot.”

Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre

(Female, 20-35). Character is age 10-14, but played by adult actor. The daughter of two fathers, she is the youngest and most politically aware speller. Perhaps a bit of a neat freak, Logainne speaks with a lisp and is ideally a natural comedienne who can improvise. Soprano/Mezzo Soprano (low G to high E flat), sings “Woe is Me.”

Marcy Park

(Asian American Female, 20-35). Character is age 10-14, but played by adult actor. Under pressure to be the best at everything, she does indeed excel – at almost everything. She attends a Catholic school called “Our Lady of Intermittent Sorrows and is never allowed to cry. Marcy should be able to dance, play the piano and have some acrobatic skills. Mezzo Soprano/Alto up to E flat, sings “I Speak Six Languages.”

Leaf Coneybear

(Male, 20-35). Character is age 10-14, but played by adult actor. Makes his own clothes and comes from a family of former hippies. He is distracted easily, though spells words correctly while in a trance. He has made it to the spelling bee by default. Baritone (low A to high G, A falsetto), sings “I'm Not That Smart.”

Chip Tolentino

(Male, 20-35). Ideally seeking Latino actor, but will consider all ethnicities. Character is age 10-14, but played by adult actor. A Boy Scout and champion of last year’s Putnam County Spelling Bee, Chip returns to defend his title, but finds puberty arriving at a rather inopportune moment. Tenor (low C to high B), sings “My Unfortunate Erection.”
