RYAN - Male, mid 30s, white. Midwestern vocational worker. Seems quiet, close-mouthed, and eerily calm to those that don’t know him well. Once people get to know him, he is disarmingly charming, attractive, and charismatic. He has an edge to him and can be surprisingly witty. Before serving two years in prison for beating someone in the town that everyone disliked, he was pretty popular and happy. Can be prone to angry outbursts and impulsive behavior, especially when he drinks.

MIA - Female, early 30s, Korean American. A curious, frenetic, and driven woman, Mia has recently moved to rural Wisconsin from Evanston, with her wife, Emma. High energy, ambitious, an activist, and a very talented graphic artist. She’s really into fermented foods, kombucha, meditation, and restoration projects. Able to balance humor and wit, she can be quite fun to be around. She has some unmanaged anxiety. Her high energy and drive can be overwhelming at times.

PEG - Female, 50s, white. This role has been cast.

SHERIFF KRIS - Female, 50s, white. This role has been cast.

DANI - Female, late 20s/early 30s, white. This role has been cast.

ALICE CARTER - Female, 18+ to play 16, open ethnicity. Principal. Mezzo with strong mix and Joni-Mitchell-esque ability to flip. Frank’s daughter. Alice is the production’s central character; strong, confused, open, and vulnerable. There is humor in her defiance.

FRANK CARTER - Male, 40s-50s, open ethnicity. Principal. Bari-Tenor. Charismatic, somewhat self-involved and still loving Father. He is a well-known Self-Help author and motivational speaker.

KATE CARTER - Female, early 20s, open ethnicity. Principal. Mezzo Soprano with strong mix. Sister to Alice, daughter to Frank - 20 years old. Kate is away at school and glad to be so. She is intense, smart, and vegan.

BETH CARTER - Female, 40s-50s, open ethnicity. Principal. Soprano with strong high mix to F. Mother to Alice and Kate, wife to Frank. Beth tries hard to be all that she thinks she should be; mother and wife - and somewhere along the way, she got a bit lost.

HANNAH - Female, 18+ to play 16, open ethnicity. Principal. Mezzo. Alice’s best friend. She is funny, charming, a bit wise, a bit zany.

MS. HOPKINS - Female, 30s-40s, open ethnicity. Principal. Mezzo. Alice’s favorite teacher. Intelligent, passionate, and guarded.

THREE (3) ENSEMBLE / THE FURIES - Female, late 20s-40s, open ethnicity. Multiple roles throughout the piece. All have a great sense of humor to play a broad range of characters and with the facility to cover different vocal styles. Strong Singers and Dancers. Lots of 3-Part Harmony singing. All are able to hold a part.
